The water in the medical pools originates from a depth of 1.200 metres and has a temperature of 43 °C, the other one is coming from 2.000 metres at a temperature of 83 °C, having sodium-chloride, hydrogen-carbonate, iodide, bromide, fluoride and several trace elements as its main constituents.

Medical water-based tourism enhanced from the beginning of the 1980s. The spa and the camping had an average of 160.000 guests a year. Back then, there was a football field at the place where today the spa is. The cornerstone of the Danubius Thermal Spa was laid in 1983 and it opened two years later within the frame of the Austro-Hungarian tourism cooperation.

The Medical and Wellness Spa opened its gates in 2002, thus further strengthening the town’s position on the health tourism market and increasing its tourism in general.

As a recognition of its high-quality services, the spa in Sárvár was admitted into the ranks of the Royal Spas of Europe. No other Hungarian spa has received such honours so far.

In April 2007 the spa won the EuropeSpa-med quality award, a year later the Certifying Commission of the Hungarian Spa Association ranked it into the highest, four star category.

The second step of spa development was completed in 2010, with the help of an investment amounting to 3 billion HUF the complex became a family spa with visitors totalling 720.000 in the year 2011.

As a result of key developments new hotels came into existence (Vital Med Hotel, Park Inn Hotel, Spirit Hotel), apart from that several pensions and apartments opened their gates. The increase in the number of commercial accommodation is well shown by the fact that while in 2001 there were 26.000 visitors, ten years later the town had 444.000 visitors, thus becoming the seventh most frequented town in Hungary.
