Location

Nádasdy-Castle, Sárvár

This year we are organizing the Sárvár International Folklore Days and the City Festival, which has now become a tradition, for the 44th time. The city’s most significant cultural event is about traditions, diversity and community.

From August 16 to 20, we are awaiting everyone – children, young people, adults, families, singles. Not only lovers of folk dance and folk music, but also those who like the festival atmosphere, or those who just want to have a good time within the historical walls. Stage events, concerts, dance performances, and accompanying programs offer a good opportunity to be together with our acquaintances and friends at the biggest Sárvár celebration of the year. Dancers are coming from Turkey, Mexico, Serbia, Slovakia, and England. Boban Markovich, Róbert Lakatos és a RÉV, Godfater, Szalonna és a bandája, Csoóri Sándor és az ötödik évszak, Gypo Circus, and Culture Cuvée will give a huge concert. We welcome everyone who wants to learn about the rich traditions of different cultures around the world, dance a bit at concerts and in dance halls. The festival’s artistic quality, international performers, traditional craftsmen and children’s programs offer an unforgettable experience for all generations.

This year, five international dance groups will perform at the folklore festival. They will dazzle the audience not only in the castle, but also in the city of Sárvár and in several other parts of the county.

The concert program of the folklore days and the city festival will be extremely rich and diverse, ranging from Hungarian folk music to world music. Both domestic and foreign performers await the audience on the festival’s main stage.

The festival’s introductory event is the opening of a photo exhibition, as part of which Dávid Botond’s book Geofolk will be presented on August 15. Every day of the festival, children’s storytelling, musical games and crafts workshops await visitors in the storytelling festival, with the best storytellers of Western Hungary in partnership with the Csürdöngölő Association. The Kecskebuka folk playground awaits children of all ages with dozens of traditional games, where they can learn about folk games with the help of animators. The crafts workshops provide an opportunity for creative expression and learning about craft traditions. The festival will feature folklore masses and religious services, which is an old tradition of the multi-day event. International dance groups will greet the faithful with songs and dances. The programs provide opportunities to learn about religious and cultural traditions and build community.  On August 20, the parade of international dance groups on the main street, the mayor’s welcome and the blessing of new bread are also traditional elements of the festival. At the folk dance gala, all groups take the stage, and then the evening ends with a huge concert on the castle’s main stage. The closing of the festival is made unforgettable by a spectacular fireworks display.
